Scholarship Packet

The Whittemore Alumni Association Scholarship is awarded each year to graduating seniors who are descendants of Whittemore High School alumni. Students planning to enter an accredited college or university are eligible to apply. The scholarship award is $1,000 for the first year and is non-renewable.

About the Whittemore Alumni Association Scholarship

Alumni of the former Whittemore High School (Conway, SC 1870-1970) organized to form an association that focused on providing scholarship support for African American students graduating high school who desire to attend college. The Alumni Association has awarded over $150,000 in scholarship awards since its establishment in 1971. Community and alumni donations are the foundation for this initiative.

Applicant Criteria

Applicants for the 2026 Whittemore Alumni Association Scholarship must meet the following scholastic and extracurricular criteria to apply:

1. Applicants must be a 2026 senior graduating from an accredited high school.

2. Applicants must be a descendant of a Whittemore High School alumni.

3. Applicants must be enrolled full time in an accredited college/university

4. Applicants must possess a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00 or higher at the time of submission (based on a weighted grading scale) at the time of submission.

5. Applicants should demonstrate strong involvement in both school and

community activities leadership and/or volunteer capacities.

Checklist of Required Documents and Attachments

Please submit the following documents and attachments by April 12, 2026:

• Two recommendation letters: One from a teacher, advisor, or school principal and One from someone in the community or your church who knows about your character (the person should not be a relative).

• Your official school transcript submitted to us by your school counselor to:

• A personal statement video (video must be 2-3 minutes long; please do not exceed 3 minutes. Please choose one of the following topics for your video. Make sure you introduce yourself by stating your name, high school, and plans for college in the video (for example, Hi, my name is Jane Smith, and I attend Sunnybrook High School in Akron, Ohio. My college plans are to attend the University of Akron to study Information Technology.) Email your video or a link to your video to whittemorealums.1870@gmail.com by 11:59 pm on April 12, 2026.

Submission Deadline: April 12, 2026

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS: To be considered, applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, the Scholarship application and have a school counselor submit a copy of your official transcript directly from the school to the association by April 12, 2026.
